Takt & Capacity Calculator

Takt, bottleneck station, capacity gap and approximate operators from demand and cycle times.

Estimated time: 3 minutes.

What you need

  • Demand per shift
  • Available minutes per shift
  • Cycle time per workstation

How to calculate takt time and workstation capacity

  1. Enter demand and time. Enter the demand per shift and the available minutes per shift after breaks and planned stops.
  2. Enter station cycle times. Add each workstation with its measured cycle time in seconds.
  3. Read takt. Takt time = available time ÷ demand. It is displayed in seconds per unit.
  4. Identify the bottleneck. The station with the highest cycle time is the bottleneck. Any station above takt caps line output.
  5. Read capacity gap and operators. The tool shows capacity gap versus demand and approximate operator count needed to meet demand at current cycle times.
