Takt & Capacity Calculator
Takt, bottleneck station, capacity gap and approximate operators from demand and cycle times.
Estimated time: 3 minutes.
What you need
- Demand per shift
- Available minutes per shift
- Cycle time per workstation
How to calculate takt time and workstation capacity
- Enter demand and time. Enter the demand per shift and the available minutes per shift after breaks and planned stops.
- Enter station cycle times. Add each workstation with its measured cycle time in seconds.
- Read takt. Takt time = available time ÷ demand. It is displayed in seconds per unit.
- Identify the bottleneck. The station with the highest cycle time is the bottleneck. Any station above takt caps line output.
- Read capacity gap and operators. The tool shows capacity gap versus demand and approximate operator count needed to meet demand at current cycle times.
